My interest in human cognition was sparked in an introductory cognitive science course. I’d missed a class on the basics of short- and long-term memory, so I went to office hours to discuss the content with my professor. Our conversation departed from the lecture content, wandered to clinical memory interventions, and landed on research investigating disruptions of trauma memory reconsolidation to alleviate PTSD symptoms. I was fascinated that autobiographical memory, the means by which we conceptualize ourselves and the world, was so malleable, especially given the confidence we place in its accuracy.
My Experience
As an undergraduate, I supported research in labs at Carleton College, Stanford University, and the University of Minnesota, and I designed and implemented studies under the guidance of Dr. Jared Medina (Emory University), Dr. Ken Abrams (Carleton College), and Dr. Mija Van Der Wege (Carleton College). I graduated from Carleton College in 2024 with a double major in Psychology and Cognitive Science.
My Work
I am currently working with Dr. Hannah Hausman at the University of California, Santa Cruz. As a post-baccalaureate researcher in the Memory and Metacognition Lab, I am investigating when and how generating errors benefits learning. I am particularly interested in exploring the cognitive processes underlying memory malleability and fallibility, especially in autobiographical episodic memory.
Outside of research, I loveplaying volleyball, trying new restaurants, playing piano and guitar, watching psychological thrillers, reading and writing prose and poetry, and playing with my baby cousins.
